He was able to find a brand new copy of the original 45 on Discogs, and made the move to purchase it to have a high-quality audio restoration from the vinyl transferred into digital files to then be cut to lacquer. After acquiring the original version of the 45 it was discovered that the versions on the 45 were just the 12” single versions but faded out to make them fit on a 45. Before they were signed, they were going by EEPMD, but they decided to drop an E due to the success of the west coast’s Eazy E. The one person not surprised by their success, however, was hip-hop pioneer and producer \u003cstrong\u003eKurtis Mantronik\u003c\/strong\u003e, who actually signed them to Fresh Records.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt’s fitting that he’s the man that saw their promise, as he himself was one to go against the grain. His electro-influenced productions for Mantronix and \u003cstrong\u003eJust Ice\u003c\/strong\u003e were ahead of their time, and perhaps in EPMD he saw kindred spirits. Best known for the song \u003cstrong data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e'Oh Yeh Soweto’\u003c\/strong\u003e, which is an astonishing adaptation of \u003cstrong data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eLamont Dozier's anthem 'Going Back to My Roots'\u003c\/strong\u003e, this track has become a contemporary underground club classic in recent times and has been featured in sets from a cross-section of DJs. With such a massive calling card song, it could be easy to write off the album as a typical one-tracker (like so many records often are), but that is a long way from the truth. Each of the remaining four tracks are super strong and, for us here at Mr Bongo, this has to be our favourite South African record of this era. 'Saturday Express' is a jazz-funk\/disco stomper which will soon be lighting up dancefloors again. 'Wind and Fire' is true afro-jazz-funk excellence, with great spacey synths and reggae-inspired guitar grooves riding throughout. The opener, 'Friday Night’, also has a slightly reggae-tinged tropical groove, whilst 'Got Me Tight' finishes off the session with a feel-good jazz-funk workout that features cool, quirky, \u003cstrong data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ePatrick Adams-esque synths. \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eSaxophonist Teaspoon Ndlela has had an amazing and rich musical career. Releasing albums on records labels \u003cem data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eSoul Jazz Pop\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eHit Special\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eGallo GRC\u003c\/em\u003e, alongside working with and writing for South African artists such as \u003cstrong data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eMpharanyana, Stimela, Sipho Gumede and Sgu\u003c\/strong\u003e. He also features on the \u003cstrong data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ePaul Simon\u003c\/strong\u003e track 'Gumboots' taken from the iconic \u003cstrong data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e'Graceland'\u003c\/strong\u003e project. Best known for the song \u003cstrong data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e'Oh Yeh Soweto’\u003c\/strong\u003e, which is an astonishing adaptation of \u003cstrong data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eLamont Dozier's anthem 'Going Back to My Roots'\u003c\/strong\u003e, this track has become a contemporary underground club classic in recent times and has been featured in sets from a cross-section of DJs. With such a massive calling card song, it could be easy to write off the album as a typical one-tracker (like so many records often are), but that is a long way from the truth. Each of the remaining four tracks are super strong and, for us here at Mr Bongo, this has to be our favourite South African record of this era. 'Saturday Express' is a jazz-funk\/disco stomper which will soon be lighting up dancefloors again. 'Wind and Fire' is true afro-jazz-funk excellence, with great spacey synths and reggae-inspired guitar grooves riding throughout. The opener, 'Friday Night’, also has a slightly reggae-tinged tropical groove, whilst 'Got Me Tight' finishes off the session with a feel-good jazz-funk workout that features cool, quirky, \u003cstrong data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ePatrick Adams-esque synths. \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eSaxophonist Teaspoon Ndlela has had an amazing and rich musical career.
